Hunger Can’t Wait. Neither Should They

Right now, 295 older adults in our community are waiting for Meals on Wheels—waiting for the nourishment they need to stay healthy, waiting for the peace of mind that comes with knowing where their next meal is coming from, and waiting for the friendly face of a driver who may be their only visitor that day.

The wait is too long. But together, we can end it.

At Eastern Area Agency on Aging, we served over 215,684 home-delivered meals last year across Penobscot, Piscataquis, Washington, and Hancock counties. But with rising food costs and continued threats of federal funding cuts, for the first time since before the pandemic, we’ve had to start a waitlist—one that keeps growing.

Hear from one of our recipients as she shares what the program means to her.

"It means survival. Meals on Wheels means survival, and I'm grateful, and I'm pleased that there is an agency that cares..."

- Carole from Brewer

For so many, this program is more than just a meal—it’s independence, dignity, and hope. It’s the difference between staying in their own homes or facing hunger and isolation.

That’s why we’re launching the End the Wait campaign—to ensure that no one in our community has to wonder where their next meal will come from. Will you help us in our fight to end the wait?
