In honor of National Love Your Pet day on Feb. 20, Eastern Area Agency on Aging and its Furry Friends Food Bank program, hosted a month-long campaign called Paws for a Cause, to benefit its pet food program. It was the second year in a row that the organization hosted the month-long inititaitve and had a goal of $13,000 to help with the cost of pet food and supplies.
The campaign focused on the testimony of long-time supporter and former program recipient, Robin Estey, who provided compelling narrative about her experiences both as a consumer and as volunteer. According to Esty it is not uncommon for her to hear heartwrenching stories about consumers who would otherwise be unable to pay for supplies or food for their pets and would have to give them up. For our consumers, one of the most underappreciated aspects of their life is the need for socialization and enrichment and pets play a vital role in that.
This year’s campaign helped bring in over 90 donations and a final campaign total of $13,266.
